DESCRIPTION:\nJames Hewison's next guest is celebrated Iranian-born now Melbourne-based visual artist Hoda Afshar whose practice focuses on the intricate relationships between politics and aesthetics, knowledge and representation, visibility and violence. She is interested in the ways that image-making can either reinforce or challenge our common sense, and the forces that shape perception. Her works invite audiences to reflect on and to rethink how and what we see, often by drawing attention to parts of the political and visible order that have previously been excluded.\n\nHoda’s artistic practice embraces a variety of media and approaches – primarily using photography and video and her work has been widely exhibited and is part of numerous private and public collections. Throughout her career, Hoda has received numerous prestigious art awards and prizes, and recently completed a one-year fellowship as part of the DAAD Artist-in-Berlin Program 2025-2026. Her first monograph, Speak the Wind, was published by MACK in London in 2021. Her second monograph, The Fold, was published by Loose Joints in 2025.\n\nThis Kelvin Confidential coincides with her survey show 'a/part' at the Buxton Contemporary in Southbank from 30 October and ijncludes a collaboration with Kurdish writer, musician and activist Behrouz Boochani.\n\nTo learn more about her remarkable work, go to www.hodaafshar.com\n\nDate: November 5 2026\nTime: 6:00pm\nWhere: Kelvin Club\n\nBOOK HERE
