Schroder’s Humble Big Band plays their Greatest hits part 1
Set 1:
7.30pm Schroder and the rhythm section small band set
Set 2
9.00pm Schroder’s humble Big Band (17 piece)
The small band set is to warm everyone up so that the rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass and drums) settles into the groove. Some interesting Latin jazz included this time.
Set 2 is the 17 piece big band- 4 trumpets, 4 trombones (one of which swaps to tuba quite often), 5 saxes who double on flutes and clarinets as well, and the rhythm section mentioned above.
Sometimes people think “that sounds loud” but of course it’s not quite so.
We don’t shove microphones in front of us in general, we use mutes and we can play loud or soft as required and as you will appreciate, good music requires variation in volume, not just full on loud unless you’re heavily into Death Metal or one of those other terrifying pop music genres.
You might also ask yourselves “When did I ever hear of a Hit Song from Schroder’s Humble Big Band?”.
They’re easy to miss, but some of our repertoire should be big hits.
Well, we like them anyway, well some of us like some of them anyway, and the audience did clap a lot and even shout approval some of the time, so from that dedicated research, I started compiling a list of the Best Of SHBB and lo and behold the list is far too long to do it all in one or two nights, so this is part one of a season of the Greatest Hits.
Included are Miles Davis/Gil Evans things like Springsville, Milestones, The Meaning of the Blues, Ellington things like Angelica or Rhapsody for the Duke, Count Basie things like Circus in Rhythm or Corner Pocket, Schroder originals like Cubism and Ballad for the Bush, and settings of tunes like Since I fell for You or A Change is Gonna Come in soul fashion or I Say a Little Prayer in the style of Roland Kirk.
As you can see the list goes on and on.
So we hope you can come along and enjoy the greatest hits part one on 17/2 and remember.
