Join James Hewison in conversation with Melbourne photographer Bill Henson at the August Kelvin Confidential. Bill was honoured by the National Gallery of Victoria with what was his first one-person exhibition in 1975 when he was only 19y.o. Since that time Henson has held over 100 solo exhibitions, including at all State and National galleries in Australia as well as at many of the world’s greatest museums and galleries. He was the first photographer to represent Australia at the 1995 Venice Biennale. His 2005 survey show, at the Art Gallery of NSW and the NGV broke all attendance records for a living Australian artist. 9,000 copies of the 500-page catalogue sold out before the exhibition concluded at the NGV. To date there have been some 25 monographs published by Swiss, German, French and British publishing houses. In 2024 he was awarded an AO as an artist and for his contribution to Australian culture.
